Comic Cleaning & Pressing: FAQ
Comic book cleaning and pressing is a restoration-free way to improve the overall appearance (and potentially the grade) of your books.
We target surface-level flaws like:
- Spine ticks
- Fingerprints and smudges
- Light creases
- Surface dirt and dust
- Indentations and impressions
- Warping or mild waviness
Whether you’re prepping for grading or just want your collection looking its absolute best, cleaning and pressing can make a noticeable difference—without altering the book's original structure or value.
Each book is assessed first to see if it’s a good candidate for treatment. If we think pressing won’t help, we’ll tell you upfront—no false hope here.
Dry cleaning is a gentle, dry (no liquids!) process that lifts:
- Dirt
- Ink transfer
- Debris
- Surface gunk your comic picked up over the years
We use erasing compounds and specialized tools—not magic, but close.
It will NOT fix: restoration, sun shadows, foxing, or major physical damage like rips or tears.
Pressing can smooth out:
- Dents and impressions
- Minor warping or ripples
- Non-colour-breaking spine stress
- Bends and light folds
We use a mix of pressure, heat, and controlled humidification to gently encourage your comic back into shape.
There are limits—pressing isn’t sorcery (sadly). It can’t fix:
- Colour-breaking spine ticks
- Heavy creases that crack colour
- Tears or missing pieces
- Extreme staining or soiling
We’re all about transparency. If your book won’t benefit from a press, we’ll let you know before we start.
Absolutely. Every comic goes through a pre-treatment evaluation. We only press books that have a genuine shot at improvement. You’ll know what to expect before we lift a finger—or a heat press.
